How to Install and Configure EdgeTX Companion on a PC

These instruction show you how to install EdgeTX Companion version 2.11.4 on a Windows 11 PC.
Everything needed is available via https://edgetx.org/getedgetx/
Download and Install EdgeTX Companion
From the EdgeTX website download EdgeTX Companion from the section labelled “Looking for EdgeTX Companion“. Click on the relevant OS download for your PC then install it.
Before running the software create the following directory structure within your PC’s “…/Documents” directory.
Create a subdirectory called “EdgeTX“, within that directory create a directories called “SDcardStructure“, “BACKUP“, “SNAPSHOTS“, “DOWNLOADS“, “UPDATES“.
You should end up with directories:
- /Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure
- /Documents/EdgeTX/BACKUP
- /Documents/EdgeTX/SNAPSHOTS
- /Documents/EdgeTX/DOWNLOADS
- /Documents/EdgeTX/UPDATES
Next download the SD card Structure and preferred Sound Pack from the website, they are in the section labelled “Already know what you are doing? Then follow the links below:“.
Extract the SDcardStructure into the directory created earlier “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure”.
Extract the Sound Pack (EN) into “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure/SOUNDS” directory.
Configuring EdgeTX Companion
To configure EdgeTX start the application then select “Setting” from the top menu bar then select “Edit Settings” again.
These setting are my preferred settings which you can change if you wish. For each Tab across the top set the parameters as follows:
Radio Profile Tab
- Give the profile a name relating to your radio e.g. “TX16s”
- Radio Type select “Radiomaster TX16S / SE / Hall / Master fire“
- Language select “en“
- Options tick “Lua“
- SD Structure path to the location created above. “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure”
- Backup Folder path to the location created above. “…/Documents/EdgeTX/BACKUP“
- Tick Enable automatic backup before writing software
- Default Int. Module set to “MULTI“
- External Module set to “None” or “Standard”
- Default Stick Mode set to “Mode 2 (RUD THR ELE AIL)” unless you use a different mode
- Default Channel Order set to “R E T A“. You may want to change this to the channel output order you are used to, e.g TAER for Spectrum
- For Simulator Case Colour select your preference
- Tick Prompt to write firmware to radio after update
- Tick Prompt to run SD sync after update
Application Setting tab
- Remember set to “10”
- Startup Settings tick “Splash Screen”, don’t tick “Prompt for Radio Profile” unless you’re going to manage different radios
- “Action for New Model” set to “Wizard“
- Tick “Remove Empty Model Slots when deleting models”
- Automatic Backup Folder”set to the Backup directory created earlier. “…/Documents/EdgeTX/BACKUP“
- Tick “Enable automatic backup before writing firmware”
- Splash Screen Library set to “Show user and companion splash screens“
- User Splash Screens set to “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure/IMAGES“
- Google Earth Executable, Only necessary if you have GPS telemetry in your model, Set it to the path on your PC where Google Earth has been installed
- Debug Output Logging untick both “Application” and “Radio Firmware“
- Update tick “Prompt to run installer after update”
- Radio Profile untick “Move selected Radio Profile to the top of the list” unless you’re going to manage different radios
Simulator settings tab
- Screenshot captures set to “../Documents/EdgeTX/SNAPSHOTS“
- Only capture to clipboard don’t tick
- Simulator controls tick “Save switch/pot positions on simulator exit”
- Don’t tick “Disable ‘Cannot open joystick, joystick disabled’ warning”
- Simulator BackLight cannot be changed
- Joystick don’t tick
- Simulator Volume gain set to “1“
- Position of keys set to “Default”
- Display Scroll Buttons tick.
Update settings
- Check frequency set to “Monthly“
- Download folder to “…/Documents/EdgeTX/DOWNLOADS“
- Decompress tick “Create sub-folders in Download folder”
- Update tick “Use Radio Profile SD Structure”
- Components tick all check boxes
- Options don’t tick “Delete compressions”
