How to Update EdgeTX on a Transmitter

These instruction show you how to update EdgeTX 2..7.1 to version 2.11.4 on a Radiomaster TX16s or Radiomaster Boxer though most of the instruction are the same for other models.
To check which version you have on your radio switch it on, press the SYS button, select the (TX16s) Information icon , top right, or (Boxer) press the Page button five times to get to the Version screen, the version of firmware you have on the radio will be displayed.

Backup the Transmitter SD card

Important – copy the entire content of the SD card to your PC disk drive as a backup in case anything goes wrong.
Note: it’s quicker to remove the SD card from the radio and use an adaptor to plug it into the PC USB port.

Best Practice: Updating a New transmitter label and store the original SD card somewhere safe, use a new SD card and copy the content of the backup, just created, onto the new card.

Get the latest Firmware

  • Create a subdirectory under your PC’s “…/Documents/EdgeTX/DOWNLOADS/” directory with the name of the version being downloaded e.g. “…/Documents/EdgeTX/DOWNLOADS/EdgeTX_Jolly_Mon_v2.11.4“
  • Download the latest Firmware from “https://edgetx.org/getedgetx/“ use the link “EdgeTX Firmware direct download“, it will be a compressed file.
  • Extract the downloaded compressed file into the directory just created.
  • Navigate to that directory “…/Documents/EdgeTX/DOWNLOADS/EdgeTX_Jolly_Mon_v2.11.4” and copy the firmware for your radio, (“tx16s-10270ad.bin”  for Radiomaster TX16s, “boxer-10270ad.bin” for Radiomaster Boxer), to the “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SdcardStructure/FIRMWARE” directory.

Get the latest SD card structure and sound pack

  • Next download the SD card Structure and preferred Sound Pack from the website.
  • Extract the SDcardStructure into the directory “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure“.
  • Extract the Sound Pack (EN) into “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure/SOUNDS” directory.

Update the Transmitter

  • Copy the content of the SDcardStructure “…/Documents/EdgeTX/SDcardStructure” to the root directory of the SD card.
  • Insert the card back into the Radio.
  • Power on the Radio.
  • The Radio might display STORAGE WARNING, Bad Data
  • Press the > bottom right of the screen, Storage preparation appears.
  • Press the > bottom right of the screen again.
  • The calibration screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the radio.
  • The Radio is then ready to update the bootloader and firmware.
  • To check the current firmware version press the SYS button select the (TX16s) Information icon , top right, or (Boxer) press the Page button five times to get to the Version screen,, the version of firmware you have on the radio, it will show vers: 2.7.1 for a New radio or the version you are currently running.

Bootloader update

  • Press the SYS button and select the (TX16s) Sdcard icon second along the top of the screen or (Boxer) Page button once.
  • Scroll down to Firmware then press the scroll wheel.
  • Scroll down to the radio firmware “tx16s-10270ad.bin”  for Radiomaster TX16s, “boxer-10270ad.bin” for Radiomaster Boxer and press the scroll wheel again.
  • Select “Flash Bootloader” and press the Scroll wheel again.
  • After a short while “Flash successful” will appear.
  • Press the back button twice to return to the boot up screen.
  • Switch the radio off

Firmware update

  • While holding both trims T4 and T1 toward each other, power on the radio.
  • The top of the screen should display “EdgeTX Bootloader – v2.11.4“
  • Select “Write Firmware” and press the Scroll Wheel
  • Scroll down to the Firmware “tx16s-10270ad.bin”  for Radiomaster TX16s, “boxer-10270ad.bin” for Radiomaster Boxer and press the scroll wheel again.
  • Press and hold the Scroll Wheel for a few second, Firmware flashing will start and a message “Writing Complete” will appear when finished.
  • Press the “RTN” key then select “Exit” and press the Scroll Wheel again.

    The Radio should boot,

To check the firmware version press the SYS button select the (TX16s) Information icon , top right, or (Boxer) press the Page button five times to get to the Version screen, the version of firmware you have on the radio will be displayed. “v2.11.4“

Note: You might get a Throttle Warning message at boot up, simply recalibrate the radio to remove the message.

  • Press “SYS” then select the “Hardware” icon top right second one in.
  • Scroll down to “Inputs” then select “Calibrate“
